Amplifier Choice
Choosing the right car amplifier is crucial for achieving optimal sound quality and performance from your new speakers. To make the best selection, several key factors need careful consideration.
Firstly, understanding the power requirements of your speakers is paramount. The first thing you will need to know is the RMS wattage of your new speakers. The RMS (Root Mean Square) wattage rating of your speakers indicates the continuous power they can handle without damage. It’s essential to choose an amplifier with an RMS wattage rating that slightly exceeds your speakers’ rating.
Pushing an amplifier past its recommended wattage can introduce distortion or a “clipped” audio signal to your speakers. Sending a distortion to your speaker will minimize their lifespan and can blow the speakers.
While overdriving your amplifier can damage your speaker, overpowering your speakers themselves will also cause the same type of damage and end the life expectancy of the speakers much sooner.
Next, determine the number of channels you need. If you have two front speakers, a two-channel amplifier will suffice. For a full four-speaker system, a four-channel amplifier is necessary.
If you intend on adding a subwoofer to the mix you will need an additional channel (5 channel amplifier) or an additional subwoofer amplifier, also known as a “mono-signal” amplifier.
Pay attention to the amplifier’s impedance rating also known as “OHMs”, which should match your speakers’ impedance for optimal performance.
Factor in your budget and desired features as well. Amplifiers come in a wide range of prices, from budget-friendly options to high-end models. Consider the features that are important to you, such as built-in crossovers, bass boost, remote controls, and digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities.
Your next decision will be whether or not you want to add a sound processor to your new amplifier. Toyota’s equipped with the factory apple carplay head unit, require a sound processor to correct the bass signal.
Once you choose your ideal amplifier(s) you will want to purchase the proper gauge amplifier power kit for your power and ground.
Tacotunes offers 100% plug and play amplifier solutions for a variety of Toyotas. From 5-channel to 4-channel and Subwoofer amplifiers that are compatible with most sound processors and DSPs. Not to mention Toyota specific custom amp racks that require ZERO drilling of your vehicle.
